THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS

One day little Johnny was getting very late for school. The bus was due outside his house at ten minutes after eight and he had just gotten up. He would be very late for school and so would all the other children in the bus, if he did not hurry up. When Johnny was eating breakfast, it was already fifteen minutes past eight and the bus driver was honking from outside. Johnny tried to hurry up as fast as he could; yet by the time he left the house, it was almost twenty past eight. When Johnny entered the bus, to his astonishment the clock on the counter still read ten minutes past eight. Instead of a steering wheel and the gearbox, all Johnny could see were panels full of buttons and levers and automated controls. The bus looked more like an airplane cockpit due to this transformation. When Johnny sat down and spoke to all his friends, they were equally amazed as he was seeing their new bus. The bus driver pressed some button and the bus started moving along its way to school.

On the way there was a huge traffic jam at a big intersection and all the children got worried thinking that they would get stranded there for quite a while. To their astonishment, the bus driver pressed some more buttons and wings seemed to unfold from the sides of the bus and the bus began to fly over and above the traffic till it landed straight at the next stop. After fetching some more children, our school bus was on its way again and this time when we had to cross a stream. Instead of waiting in line to use the toll bridge, our bus got converted into a submarine and all of us went down under, till the other side of the stream.

After what seemed like not more than five minutes the school bus drew up in the parking lot outside school and little Johnny and the rest of his friends could not believe that they had reached school so fast that day. The school bus was the Topic of discussion that day in all the classes and in the cafeteria. From that day onwards the bus came to be known as the MAGIC SCHOOL BUS.
