| THE GREEDY FOX |
 |
In a deep and dense jungle there once lived a fox that was
extremely greedy. He was always on the look out to kill prey. When other animals had
caught their prey, he would go and fight with them and kill them so that he could eat his
prey. None of the animals in the forest were happy with him and they all hoped that
someday, somehow he would change his bad habits, but he did not change them.
One fine morning as the fox set out to tour the forest, he
saw a hunter. He was overjoyed, because if the hunter caught any prey, all he had to do
was taking the prey away from the hunter. Or if not that, the hunter would surely lead him
to the prey and make the catch a whole lot easier for the fox. The hunter was following a
boar. He had been following the boar for quite a while. The fox saw this secretly and he
decided to also follow the hunter. The hunter did not realize that the fox was following
him. In totality. It amounted to a race between the hunter and the fox as to who would get
to the boar first and kill the boar.
At last, the hunter took his bow and arrows and aimed
effectively at the bore. With one swift arrow, the boar was wounded. But much to the
hunter's surprise, the injured boar now charged towards the hunter and before the hunter
could do anything, the boar killed the hunter with his tusk. The fox that had been hiding
all this while was overjoyed. Now not only did he have the boar to eat but also the
hunter?
In his devious little mind he started plotting his plan of
action to decide what he would do to the two dead bodies. The boar would last him for a
good two months worth of food, so the fox decided to keep the boar away and eat the hunter
first. The fox approached the hunter and near the hunter's body was lying his bow and
quiver full of arrows. The fox got caught in the hunter's bow, so he cut the string of the
bow with his teeth to free himself. Instead, when the fox cut the string, the bow
straightened out and it went inside the fox's mouth and pierced him through and through
and killed him instantaneously.
The rest of the animals had not seen the fox for a few hours
and neither had any of them lost their prey, so when they set out in the forest to look
for the fox, they came upon the clearing where they saw the fox's dead body. A jungle
meeting was called and all the animals feasted on the dead bodies that were lying there
especially that of the fox. It never pays to be greedy, because at the end of it, you
always loose. |
