If your baby were delivered now it would have a chance of surviving with some of the
greatest advances in medicine. The premature baby would survive and be in the incubator
for few months. The taste buds of the baby are forming. He may be developing a weakness
for sweets. The crown to rump length is about 8.8 inches (22cms). The baby weighs about
1.5 pounds (700 gms).

26
You may have heard your baby's heart beat by now at your visits. The normal fetal
heart beat is about 120 to 160 beats a minute. Listening to your baby's heart beat is very
reassuring. At 26 weeks, fetal brain scans shows that the baby responds to touch. The
crown to rump length is around 9.2 inches (23 cms). The baby weighs almost 2 pounds (850
gms).
WEEK
27
This week marks the beginning of the third trimester. The retina, which is important in
the reception of light images develops its normal layers by the 27th week of gestation.
These layers are important in receiving light and light information and transmitting it to
the brain for interpretation. The crown to rump length is about 9.6 inches (24 cms). The
baby weighs a little over 2 pounds (1000 gms)

28
This week your baby is growing rapidly. Your baby's eyebrows and eyelashes may be present.
He can now open and close his eyes, sleeps and wakes at regular intervals and may suck a
finger or thumb. Hair on the baby's head is growing longer. The baby's body is becoming
plumper and rounder. Its beginning to fill out a little. The crown to rump length of the
baby is 10 inches. The baby weighs about 2.4 pounds.
