Q. |
My
mother and sister conceived only after 5-6 years of marriage
and the first born in the family has always been a female
issue, does that mean I will have difficulty conceiving
and my first born will be a female? |
A. |
It
does not necessarily mean, you will have the same problem.
Most infertility problems are not hereditary and need complete
checkup. Your first born may not necessary be a girl, it
depends on the sex chromosome makeup of the foetus. |

|
Q. |
Family
members blame me for having only female issues. Will using
the Chinese calendar help me in choosing the sex of my baby?
|
A. |
One
sex chromosome is inherited from each of the parents. Father
has XY chromosomes and mother has XX chromosomes.
If the union result in XX chromosome it will be a
girl and if the union is a XY chromosome, it will be a boy.
It is the father who decides the sex
of the baby. Scientifically there are no proven results
that using the Chinese calendar will help you choose the
sex of the baby. |

|
Q. |
My
husband feels that since he has no problem having sex, the
sperm count must be normal. |
A. |
There
is no co-relationship between male fertility and virility.
Men with good sex drives may have no sperms at all in the
semen. |
|
|
Q. |
As long as I breast feed the baby I cannot get pregnant
again?
|
A. |
It
is not true. Though breast feeding tends to postpone return
of ovulation by maximum 3 months, ovulation will return
eventually, but no one can predict when it will. Women should
resort to effective contraception to avoid pregnancy. |
|
|
Q. |
Will
my child be normal and healthy even if I don't show much?
|
A. |
The
development and growth of baby largely depends on the diet
you have during pregnancy and not on the protuberance of
the abdomen. Moreover USG (ultrasonography) can help you
to ascertain the growth and development of the baby. |

|
| Q. |
Once
a caesarian section always a caesarian section.
|
| A. |
Depending
on the cause of caesarian section, in the 1st delivery,
the second delivery could be a normal vaginal delivery in
a hospital. However, if there have been two caesarian sections,
the obstretician would prefer to do a caesarian section
for the 3rd delivery. |

|
Q. |
Taking
oral contraceptives after delivery will make me put on weight,
rather than lose weight. |
A. |
Oestrogen
hormone in the pill may cause minimal weight gain. Generally
speaking weight gain is more due to psychological and sociology
factors, rather than adverse reaction to the pill. |
