As the child grows and becomes independent, he can judge for himself and make certain decisions. It is the job of the parents to inculcate in their child a certain amount of sense as well as the feeling of sensibility.

As a parent, what must one do
Psychologists say that children who are brought up in a warm, comfortable and happy home and are loved and cared for, grow up to be better than those children that are neglected and unattended. Therefore it is very essential to spend time with your child. Take time out to play games with them, take them for a walk, let them help you cook and also actively participate in the child's homework. Parent's must read stories to the child and watch movies with their child. This will increase the child's listening, social and creative skills. Talk to your child and educate them about their family, your own childhood and tell them anecdotes about their childhood from the time they were a few months old to a few years old.

Be a Role Model
Set yourself as an example for your child to follow. What you expect your child to become and the qualities that you expect in him, need to be taught to him. Inculcate responsibility and sensibility in him by you doing the right thing and setting the perfect example. Children watch and observe others and whatever they see remains firmly imprinted in their minds. Your child watches you and sees how you deal with life and the various situations that come across in your life and they ultimately learn to follow you.

The importance of others
Teach your child to value and appreciate all other individuals. Every person has his or her own emotions and feelings, which have to be respected. Teach your child to be sensitive to the needs of others. Your child should be kind and helpful. A strong, loving and caring environment teaches your child empathy.

Never, never, never give up
This lesson of perseverance is a very important lesson, which needs to be taught to all children. No matter how difficult or painstaking the task may be, one must never give up. Try till you succeed. This is one of the most important lessons of life that as a parent you can teach your child. You must tell your child that no one is perfect and you cannot always be the best in everything that you do (although you can try to be). People make mistakes and once in a while mistakes do happen. As a parent, you must have realistic expectations from your child and set reasonable goals for him. If your child has done well in anything, praise him, support him and encourage him. Your words will have a great effect on him and go a long way.

Inculcate sensibility
Help your child to deal with himself to solve problems. This will make him feel more capable and competent. For example: If there is a math problem that he needs help with, although you can do it for him, let him try and do it himself. When he finally does succeed after trying for a while, he will feel proud of himself and experience a feeling of satisfaction. When you praise him, your appraisal reinforces the desired behavior.
